Well over 200 competitors gathered for the penultimate race of Telford AC’s Sexarathon series in Telford Town Park recently.
This has become known as a fast course and it proved popular with those looking to record a quick time.
Newport and District Running Club put out their customary large team entry of over 30 athletes who produced some quick times including a few pb’s from some.
Robin Guy was again leading the Newport athletes, coming in 18th overall in 17m 18s. He complained of slightly tight hamstrings, which was hardly surprising as he had completed a full ironman triathlon only three days before, but that was another story.
Competition near the head of the field was intense as Maurice Reid also had a good run to be less than a minute behind Robin in 18m 14s to cross the line in 42nd position. Paul Parkinson gave Maurice some competition as he was only just behind him in 46th place in a time of 18m 22s.
Phil Hill showed his speed to be 48th in 18m 29s with Alex James 58th in 19m 08s. David Brown showed that he could still show a turn of speed to beat the 20 minute barrier and be 79th in 19m 56s and Andrew Coles turned in a good performance to be 87th in 20m 15s.
Steve Fowles put in yet another solid run to be 97th in 20m 46s with Sally Potts chasing him to the line in 98th just six seconds behind and Kevin Nicklin turned in a good performance to record 21m 51s and claim 110th place.

With only the last race at Madeley to come on 1st September, the contest for places in the six race series is very close, but seven or eight runners from Newport stand an excellent chance of winning or being placed in the age category.
