Three Peaks Fell Race

For those in the right circles, the three peaks fell race is one of the classic tests of running. Taking in the three Yorkshire peaks of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough and making the competitors climb a total of 5380ft of ascent over the 24 miles this race was recently run for the 56th time.

Among the 900 entries for this year’s race was Sandy Mackenzie, Noel Hogan and John Taylor from Newport and District Running Club. Conditions on the day were rather warm, but this meant that running conditions were dry and relatively quick.

Noel Hogan finished 229th in 4hr 20m with John Taylor not too far adrift in 295th in 4hr 31m. Sandy Mackenzie also did well to break the five hour barrier to be 449th in 4hr 55m.
