Stafford 20
Almost 300 athletes converged on Stafford for the Stafford 20 road race last weekend.
This annual race is often used as a build up towards the London Marathon later in the year and five runners from Newport took on the challenge to test their fitness and stamina.
The race was run in beautiful spring sunshine which must have inspired the Newport runners taking part to put a spring in their steps towards the finish line.
First in for Newport was Graham Rogers in 87th place in the excellent time of 2hr 33m 40s. Judi Clayton also had a good run, keeping up a steady pace to be 126th in 2hr 42m 05s. With another good run, Pauline Newton managed to cross the line in 2hr 53m 02s to be 191st with Oliver stokes 207th in 2hr 57m 42s and John Stokes completing the Newport line up to be 272nd in 3hr 26m 28s.
