Shropshire 4
The third race of Telford AC’s Sexarathon series took place last week at the Shropshire Golf complex in Muxton. A warm evening saw 200 runners converge on the venue to run through the golf centre and Granville Country Park and the pace was hot right from the starting gun.
Newport and District Running Club put out their customary large entry into the race with 37 of their number crossing the finish line – the biggest club entry of the night and a credit to the town’s athletes.
Seemingly getting faster with every race, Robin Guy was first home for Newport in 8th place in 23m 07s and ahead of runners who last year were a distance ahead of him. Maurice Reid was also going well and achieved a good 26th position in 24m 45s with Paul Parkinson not far adrift in 29th place in 25m 23s.
Phil Hill and John Taylor had a head to head battle throughout the race, but Phil narrowly came out on top to be 36th in 25:52 with john 37th just a second later.
David Brown had a good run on the night to claim 55th spot in 26:51 and Andrew Coles worked hard to be 61st in 27:00 with the steady Steve Fowles 72nd in 28:11.
Darren Churm and Selwyn Plant also had a close tussle with Darren just pulling away to be 76th in 28:20 and Selwyn 78th in 28:27.
