Sherrifhales Shuffle
The second running of the Sherrifhales Shuffle took place in glorious sunshine at the weekend. This was in stark contrast to last year’s race when conditions were atrocious.
Almost 140 athletes gathered at the school to run the seven mile multi-terrain event in aid of the village hall fund and the villagers turned out in force to help marshal the runners around the route and offer lots of encouragement.
The race set off at a good pace with everyone keen to establish themselves and get into their running. However, after only half a mile the uphill climb on the bark chippings really sorted out the field as it was akin to running up a sand dune and slowed some of the runners considerably.
Robin Sedman-Smith of Telford AC was always out at the front, eventually winning in 41m 46s, but Robin Guy of Newport and District was pushing on not far behind him with Tom Hobbins of Stafford Harriers also in contention.
Many runners from Newport and District Running Club were taking part as they were also helping to organise the event and as Robin Guy, who lives in Sherrifhales was one of the chief organizers, it was appropriate that he should come in high up the rankings in second place in the really fast time of 43m 42s.
John Garmson was also well placed in 5th in 44m 56s and Gary Postins was also highly placed in 7th in 45m 57s.
There was a small gap to Simeon Hadebe who finished in 51m 28s to be 28th with David Brown not far behind in 31st in 52m 08s. Sean Mooney was 33rd in 52m 36s with Mark Deighton keeping up a reasonable pace to be 35th in 52m 57s followed in very soon after by Selwyn Plant in 54m 16s to claim 41st place.

Marko Stolic 57th 56. 39

All the runners were extremely complimentary about the races organisation, the friendly atmosphere and the marshalling and hopefully this should have boosted the funds towards the new village hall in the village.
