Phoenix Flyer 5K

The second race of Telford AC’s Sexarathon series took place at the Phoenix School in Dawley last week. Well over 200 runners took part in this 5k race taking in two and a half circuits of the school fields and for the first time in several years, the race took place in warm, dry conditions.

The Telford club took six of the first ten positions, but Robin Guy of Newport and District Running Club, put in an excellent performance to claim the 10^th spot with a tremendous time of 17m 00s, showing that he is definitely the man in form for the town’s club at the moment.

A classic tussle took place not far behind him between three other Newport runners. Maurice Reid, Paul Parkinson and Phil Hill raced each other right to the finish and finished 42^nd, 43^rd and 44^th in 18m 53s, 18m 56s, and 18m 57s respectively, setting up next month’s race nicely at the Shropshire Golf Centre at Muxton.

David Brown pushed on well to finish well up the field in 60^th place in 19m 55s with Andrew Coles time of 20m 22s good enough to give him 71^st position. Another eleven places back in 82^nd was Sean Mooney in 20m 43s with Darren Churm 87^th in 20m 50s.

Bernie Holbrook continues to run steadily and returned a time of 22m 28 to be 108^th with Ollie Stokes only just behind him in 111^th in 22m 39s.

A total of 34 Newport runners competed in this race, which was one of the largest club turnouts on the evening. Othe Newport runners finished as follows:-
