Longmynd Valleys Fell Race

21/02/2010

Newport and District Running Club members visited the Carding Mill Valley for the start of one of the toughest races in the area. Whilst only being around 11 miles in length, the total of almost 4500 feet of ascent over some of the steepest grass hills in the country made it a gruelling test of stamina for the field of over 200 athletes on the day.

Noel Hogan started his racing year off with a good performance to be 48th in 2hrs 10m 17sec. Showing that she was up for the challenge, Helen Skelton kept up a strong effort all the way round to be 93rd in 2hrs 25m 07s.

John Taylor and Sandy Mackenzie kept each other company to be 116th and 117th respectively with John clocking 2h 29m 48s and Sandy just a second behind.

David Brown found the going tough, but was determined to keep going, and came in 190th in 3h 17m 10s with Glynn Bibby making up the Newport contingent to be 194th in 3h 25m 18s.
