Ten Newport based runners travelled to London to take on the annual carnival that is the London Marathon. The magic distance of 26 miles and 285 yards was run, jogged and walked by over 37000 people on the day and all the Newport crowd finished well inside the top half of the results. A wonderful achievement !!! Results were as follows :-
Maurice Reid 1269th 3.02.29
Kate Whitworth 1915th 3.10.27
Graham Rogers 3830th 3.26.53
Judi Clayton 6390th 3.41.29
Pete Johnstone 6812th 3.43.50
Selwyn Plant 10013th 3.56.53
Lorraine Rollinson 12877th 4.07.51
Pauline Newton 13046th 4.08.30
Ollie Stokes 13581st 4.10.37
Nicola Fowles 17006th 4.23.21
Congratulations and commiserations in equal measure to Maurice who had a brilliant run and gained a great time, but frustratingly close to beating the three hour mark.
Kate Whitworth moved to Stone last year, but still has contacts with the club and she obviously kept up her training to achieve her time and position in the race.
Pauline had her own challenge to raise money for Hope for Heroes and others were also running for various good causes. If you sponsored them, give them your money as soon as possible. Collecting the cash is often harder than running the race.
Well done to all the runners who took part - you did the town of Newport and the running club proud!
