Lilleshall 5

 

This year’s Sexarathon series, organised by Telford AC, started last Wednesday with the Lilleshall 5 mile race from the National Sports Centre. Around 260 runners set off on a new course which took them down the drive, before turning onto Pitchcroft Lane, then past the Fox on Pave Lane before racing all the way up the drive to finish at the pavilion on the sports field.

Robin Guy was in blistering form for the Newport club, sticking close to the front of the field and eventually finishing 14^th overall in an excellent time of 29m 17s. Maurice Reid also proved that he has a good turn of speed to be 31^st in 31m 00s with Paul Parkinson chasing him all the way to be 37^th in 31m 58s.

Phil Hill did well to be 48^th in 32m 23s and David Rose showed that he had recovered from his trip to the Isle of Man to finish in 33m 48s and claim 67^th spot. Sally Potts had a good run to finish 82^nd  in 34m 18s with Steve Fowles 83^rd just two seconds later.

Andrew Coles continues to show improvement and his time of 34m 38s was good enough for 87^th place with David Brown 93^rd in 35m 10s.

The race was not all about the fast or experienced racers at the front, however. The Newport Club has many runners who haven’t been running for long who continue to show improvements as their training progresses and they get fitter. Also many runners do well in their respective age groups and are very competitive within their category. Other Newport runners were:
