Ennerdale Horseshoe Fell Race
This was another tough fell race in the Lake District for a hardy few from Newport and conditions were again quite warm, making the task of 23 miles with 7500 feet of ascent even more challenging for the athletes.
Starting on the edge of Ennerdale Water, they had to run all the way over famous landmarks such as Haystacks and Green Gable before returning via Kirk Fell and Pillar and the finish.
The scenery was stunning in what is probably one of the most scenic areas in the country and the Newport trio of John Taylor, Noel Hogan and Sandy Mackenzie all enjoyed the day.
John and Noel both recorded a time of 5hrs 32mins and Sandy 5hrs 46mins which could have been due to him stopping to assist another runner who was in some difficulty on the course. An act of true sportsmanship.
Probably the highlight of the day was when they stopped at a drinks station to be given water by Lake District fell running legend Joss Naylor. A real treat and a welcome surprise on an arduous run.
