Batch Bash
The third race in the midweek Summer Fell Series took place last week with the Batch Bash from behind the Yew Tree pub in All Stretton.
Although this was a race of only three miles, it incorporated two hills and a total climb of 1000 feet and really tested all those taking part.
Newport and District Running Club put in a dozen runners on the night and as well as the run and climb they also had to contend with fairly hot conditions as they worked their way round the course towards the finish line.
Noel Hogan’s recent holiday must have done him some good as he pushed along near the front of the 100+ field to finish 18th in 33m 22s. John Taylor descended well to be 28th in 34:32 and Helen Skelton wasn’t too far behind in 35th in 35:08.
Sandy Mackenzie had a good run to be 39th in 36:28 ahead of David Brown who finished in 38:48 in 54th position. Andrew Coles put in a good effort to be 76th in 41:48 and then came a closely grouped number of Newport ladies - Pauline Newton did well to be 93rd in 47:01 closely followed by Rachel Storey in 95th place in 47:28 and Jill Kelson one place behind in 48:06. Liz Masters was 98th in 49:47, 99th was Ceri Christie in 49:48 and Tracy Hartridge completed the line up in 101st in 51:03.
